Everyone loves beach waves because it looks lovely, despite what your hair length is…
Often, we see actresses and social media influencers flaunting perfectly done loose tousles and we just crave for them! (We just can’t help it, can we?) If you have tried to achieve beachy waves many times and have failed, don’t give up just yet. Not until you’ve try our method – at least once. In fact, this look can be attained quite effortlessly (and less daunting of course) once you’ve mastered the art of DIYing them at home.
So, let’s get started with our five-step routine to perfect beach waves.
Things you will need
- Diffuser/hair dryer
- Curling tong
- Shampoo and Conditioner
- Heat resistant spray
- Texturizing spray
- Finishing oil or serum
Step 01 - Wash your hair
Any good hair style starts with oil free hair strands. So, go ahead and wash your hair and get rid of any sebum or dirt. Once you’ve cleansed, condition a little less than you normally would.(this will give you more control over your hair) We recommend you use a Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner to give your hair a more texturized or lifted look.
(Some hair cleansers can make your hair very soft and flat. Therefore, will not be ideal for beach waves hence our suggestion)
Step 02 – Diffuser action
First, towel dry your hair and then use a heat resistant spray generously.
Although this step is often overlooked, to avoid damaging our hair, we must use a heat resistant product. If you are some who does heat styling often, we’d say it’s a beauty essential for you.
Now, using your diffuser dry your hair section by section. Since we are trying create waves, it doesn’t make sense to blow dry our hair straight. This method will enhance the natural wavy texture of your hair.
Tip: If you don’t have a diffuser just use the blow dryer and crumple your hair upwards while drying them.
Step 03 – Define the curls
Separate your hair into two. Take smaller sections and wrap around the curling tong while twisting them. Remember not to go against the natural waves you have achieved through the diffuser action:
but instead try to create curls in-between, so it retains that natural feel.
You don’t want your hair to look hard and done up, now do you? Besides, you’ve surely been to the beach many times and you would already know:
that perfect beach waves can be perfectly messy!
What you are trying to do in this step is, taking control of the texture you’ve created and adding some definition to those loose curls by the means of a curling tong
Tip: If you have done a relaxing recently or have naturally straight hair, you could use a Texturizing spray before you curl your hair.
Step 04 – Break the curls
Yes, that’s right! Just using your fingers, comb through the curls to separate them and style how you want them to look. This way you will break up any hardened curls and give it more of a bouncy liveliness.
If you didn’t use a texturizing spray in the previous step thinking you may not need it, you can consider doing so now. It will lift your hair and create the illusion of big hair. (even if you want to skip this, that’s totally fine too)
Step 05 – Add some lustre
Well actually, at this stage you are done with all the hard work.
Look in the mirror and see if you like what you see!
Make any last adjustments and then apply a tad bit of hair serum or oil to give it a nice sheen and keep those pesky frizzy hair in check. Voila! You are now ready to rock those beach waves.
Was it too difficult to achieve? (We hope not! 😊)
